A VFX artist who worked on Stranger Things season 4 refutes a since-deleted post from the Netflix Geeked Twitter account claiming that Vecna features no CGI. First released on Netflix in 2016, the Duffer Brothers' horror/fantasy series has since become one of the streamer's biggest offerings. After 3 popular seasons, Stranger Things returned for season 4 in May, the last 2 episodes of which were released last week. The season overall has shattered viewership records for Netflix.
After defeating the Demogorgon in season 1 and battling Demodogs and the Mind Flayer in seasons 2 and 3,Stranger Things season 4 has introduced a brand new villain in the form of Jamie Campbell Bower's Vecna. The new villain has proven to be the most formidable yet, killing his victims in a gruesome fashion. Over the course of the show, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) finds out that Vecna, aka Henry Creel/One, actually has a connection to her past in the Hawkins Lab, making the ongoing battle between them intensely personal. The latest Stranger Things villain features a gnarly exterior, much of which is achieved with makeup and prosthetics that were shown off in a recent video of Bower's extensive transformation process.

In a since-deleted post, the official Netflix Geeked account celebrates Vecna's practical appearance, claiming that the character is brought to life without the use of CGI. VFX artist Matthew McDonald refutes the claim, however, pointing out in a quote-tweet that CGI "absolutely is" used to create Vecna. He then criticizes the way in which the post diminishes his work and that of his colleagues. Check out a screenshot of the original Netflix Geeked post and McDonald's reply
