Warning: This article contains spoilers for Stranger Things season 4 part 2.
Fans of Stranger Things have taken to social media to share their reactions to that devastating death in season 4 volume II. The final, super-sized episodes of Stranger Things' fourth season dropped on Netflix Friday, July 1, and they brought a handful of tearful moments. Matt and Ross Duffer teased Stranger Things' season finale would feature some major deaths. So, it was clear not everyone would survive Vecna and the latest excursion into the Upside Down. Unfortunately, the Party's newest member, Eddie «The Freak» Munson (Joseph Quinn), did not survive to see season 5.
After being introduced as the epitome of '80s metal cliches in «Chapter One: The Hellfire Club,» Eddie swiftly began to resonate with audiences thanks to his viral scene with Chrissy Cunningham (Grace Van Dien). Having «just ran and left» Vecna's first victim in his trailer, Eddie is hunted as a serial killer/satanic cult leader as he and Hawkins' heroes hatch a plan to stop the Upside Down's big bad. In volume II's finale, «Chapter Nine: The Piggyback,» Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Steve (Joe Keery), and Robin (Maya Hawke) head to the Creel House in the Upside Down to kill Vecna while Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) and Eddie distract his bat-like creatures. The latter draws them out by playing Metallica's «Master of Puppets» atop his trailer. When they become overwhelmed and Dustin escapes back to Hawkins through the gate in Eddie's trailer, the once cowardly misfit decides to atone for leaving Chrissy by sacrificing himself to the bats to buy his new friends more time. Fans are currently dealing with Stranger Things' season 4 finale the only way they know how: on social media.
