With Season 4 of Stranger Things already in the rear-view after the holiday weekend, one season and at least one spin-off may be ahead. On a recent Happy Sad Confused podcast appearance, the Duffer Brothers revealed some initial details on what's ahead for Stranger Things beyond Season 5--the show's final batch of episodes.
«I've read these rumors that there's gonna be an Eleven spin-off, that there's gonna be a Steve and Dustin spin-off or that it's another number,» the Duffer Brothers said (via Variety). «That's not interesting… because we've done all that. We've spent I don't know how many hours exploring all of that. So it's very different.»
The brothers added that the spin-off will have a «similar sensibility» and not any of the main characters--and that they won't showrun whatever's next. The brothers added, «Hopefully we find that right person to pass the baton to while we go on to do new stuff.»
Later in the podcast, the pair also shared that Season 5 of Stranger Things is «going to be moving pretty fast» because so much of Season 4 was about setting things up. But, they said, «Characters are already going to be in action. They’re already going to have a goal and a drive, and I think that’s going to carve out at least a couple hours and make this [final] season feel really different.»
A Stranger Things spin-off was confirmed by Netflix as at least possible back in February.
