In a video posted to thelastofus subReddit, user TheUFCVeteran3 pulls out Ellie’s rifle while in front of a mirror. As Ellie scowls down the scope, the gun jumps to the right, leaving her hands empty. TheUFCVeteran3 then swaps between their vast arsenal, demonstrating that it’s only the sniper rifle that has this erratic tendency.
The rifle is one of The Last of Us 2's most powerful weapons and is the only one Ellie carries that has a first-person scope. Commenter LeftTwixIsBetter highlights that in order to get that first-person perspective, the developers have cheated somewhat by physically moving the rifle above Ellie’s right shoulder, where the third person camera is. The game appears to push the rifle’s scope up to the camera while culling its barrel to give players a better view of their target and prevent clipping.
