It's not entirely clear what caused the glitch, but it resulted in the end of the battle with the quest complete. The character is one of several optional boss fights that can be found throughout God of War Ragnarok.

God of War Ragnarok is a game that features a lot of post-story content that involves battling creatures throughout the various realms. One such series of fights eventually results in Kratos confronting the berserker king, Hrolf Kraki in one of the game's more difficult boss fights. However, shaunmcquitty44 got off a bit easy in this battle. At first, the player battled the boss and seemed to be doing fairly well against them. However, roughly halfway through the fight, the boss simply disappeared. The battle then ended, declaring the player victorious and the quest complete, much to their confusion.
