The Steam Deck's launch date has been officially confirmed, and it's the same day as Eldin Ring. Valve’s new portable console was originally set to release late last year, but the Steam Deck was ultimately delayed due to production issues brought on by a shortage of microprocessor chips that has also caused trouble for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X supplies. PC gamers were taken by surprise when Valve first announced the Steam Deck back in July, with its main appeal being that players will be able to take their Steam libraries with them on the go in a similar vein to the Nintendo Switch.
While not every Steam game will play on the Steam Deck on release, titles like The Witcher 3 have been shown to run quite well on the new hardware, and Valve has promised that in-development projects like a Half-Life RTS title will show off the Steam Deck's technical capabilities. The people behind the Steam Deck also promised that their new portable system will avoid some of the issues that have troubled the Nintendo Switch, such as the infamous joystick drifting problem that brought Nintendo no shortage of legal troubles over the past few years.
