In a shocking update, Bethesda has announced that both Starfield and Arkane Studios' Redfall have been delayed into 2023. The beloved developer and publisher has several games in the works, with the sci-fi role-playing game Starfield being one of the most highly-anticipated games of this year. However, a recent Starfield leak detailed a broken engine and dated flight mechanics, which may have foreshadowed the game's impending delay.
As Bethesda Game Studio's first new property in 25 years, Starfield will leave behind mystical provinces and apocalyptic wastelands to bring gamers amongst the stars. The sci-fi adventure, described by Bethesda as a «NASA-Punk» aesthetic, will combine realistic technology with epic adventures to create a truly unique experience. Despite this new setting, Starfield will reportedly still contain staple Bethesda features like character customization, dialogue wheels and the ability to recruit companions like the robotic Vasco. The infamously detested launch of Fallout 76 has led to some skepticism from fans, however, with the lack of a Starfield gameplay trailer only increasing fans' concerns.
In an official Twitter post, Bethesda has announced the delay of both Starfield and the upcoming Arkane Studios project Redfall. The update explains that both projects are extremely ambitious, and a delay into the first half of 2023 will hopefully help deliver "the best, most polished versions of them." Bethesda promises to share deep dives into the gameplay of both titles soon, but sadly Starfield and Redfall are now at least eight months away from release. Bethesda's statement can be read below:
