Hit indie farming RPG Stardew Valley has grown massively in both popularity and scale since its original 2016 release. Players start with almost nothing upon arriving in Pelican Town, and must build up their fortune through farming, mining, and fishing. Fishing is one of the most important activities in Stardew Valley, and can be a great source of both money and crafting materials.

There are almost a hundred different kinds of fish for players to catch in Stardew Valley, but not all of them are easy to find. One of the most difficult fish for players to track down and reel in is the Squid, which can only be caught in very specific conditions.

Stardew Valley: Where to Catch Catfish

The first step to catching a Squid in Stardew Valley is getting a fishing rod, which players can do as early as Spring 2 by completing the «To The Beach» quest. However, it's recommended that players use the Fiberglass or Iridium Rod with bait and tackle when trying to catch a Squid, due to their higher than average difficulty.

After they've got their rod, and hopefully some good bait and tackle, players will need to wait until the conditions are right for catching Squid. Like almost all fish in Stardew Valley, Squid can only be caught in the right place at the right time:

The Squid is a sinker-type fish, which means it will often drift toward the bottom in Stardew Valley's Fishing minigame, before violently jerking upwards. Despite this behavior, it should be fairly easy to catch for a player with a good Fishing Level and rod.

Squid are a moderately valuable item in Stardew Valley, selling with a base price of 80-160g depending on their quality. Squid are also required to complete several quests, including an automatic quest from Willy on Winter 2.
