Dantooine is the first planet in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic that you get to explore as a Jedi Padawan and Force user. As such, the game also gives you a look into the role the Jedi play in society at this point in the Star Wars timeline. One of those roles is to serve as a crime solver, which is the basis of the Murdered Settler side quest in KOTOR.

A settler named Calder Nettic has been murdered and the Jedi Bolook tasks you with figuring out which one of the two suspects could have murdered him. There will be multiple outcomes on how "Murdered Settler" can play out, but only one is the best in the end.

The quest takes place in the Grove section of Dantooine, specifically at the bridge by the river that runs in the middle part of the Grove map. There you will find a Twi'lek Jedi named Bolook.
Talk to Bolook and he'll tell you he's investigating the murder of a settler named Calder Nettic. He'll also tell you that Calder was out hunting in the cloudy morning when he was seemingly killed by one of two people, Rickard Lusoff and Handon Guld.
Declining to join in the investigation locks you out forever, so don't do that. Also, this quest will disappear after the events aboard the Leviathan, which takes place after you've acquired your third Star Map. Make sure you get to it
