Battlefront 2's support got cut in 2020 so that developer DICE could focus its efforts more on Battlefield 2042, but fans weren't done. Leaked voice lines, teased promises, and developer comments pointed to a future that ultimately never came, one that players were looking forward to, so modders are making it a reality themselves with the newly released Battlefront 2022.
This new mod started off as two separate projects, but they ended up merging to make something much, much larger. It's helmed by PianoBoy1764 and this_guy446, adding 25 new characters with new models, weapons, and abilities, as well as new AI pathfinding, a redesigned UI, and new reinforcements. And it's not done. The two plan to keep updating the mod, giving Battlefront 2 a new breath of life two years on from its end.

With Battlefront 2022, you can play as the Jedi Temple Guard, the Magnaguard, the Alderaan Honour Guard, and the Riot Troopers. They're a new type of reinforcement much like Aerial, Enforcer, and Infiltrator, focusing on melee combat with the Jedi Temple Guard even wielding double-sided yellow lightsabers. As for heroes and villains, you can now play as Mace Windu, Captain Rex, Cad Bane, Bo-Katan Kryze, Asajj Ventress, Commander Cody, Crosshair, Hunter, Jango Fett, Wrecker, Second Sister, Sabine Wren, IG-88, Din Djarin, Darth Sidious (with a red lightsaber), Moff Gideon, Nien Nunb, Greedo, Jyn Erso, Grand Inquisitor, Ahsoka Tano, Dengar, Poe Dameron, and Snoke.
To play, you'll need IA Battlefront Gameplay Rework and Instant Action Overhaul, but the mod page has a handy guide on how to put it all together, so you can dive in and try out the new content with ease.
