Recently shared Star Trek: Discovery images confirm the start of filming for season 5. The science-fiction series premiered in 2017 as the firstStar Trek show since Star Trek: Enterprise was cancelled over a decade prior. Taking inspiration from the popular J.J. Abrams 2009 reboot film, both Alex Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller were tasked with rebranding the long-running franchise for a new audience. Star Trek: Discovery follows Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) as she leads the crew of the USS Discovery on adventures through space and time.
Star Trek: Discovery season 4 found the known galaxy threatened by a mysterious phenomena known as the Dark Matter Anomaly (DMA). The massive, intelligently designed object traversed through multiple star systems, destroying anything and everything in its path, including Kwejian, the home world of Burnham's love interest Cleveland Booker (David Ajala). Season 4 concluded with the crew of the Discovery successfully contacting the DMA's distant alien creators, Species 10-C, and getting them to deactivate the advanced device after a prolonged and complicated attempt at communication. Star Trek: Discovery was renewed for an additional season in January, however, no story details of the upcoming episodes have been revealed.
