Square Enix has released a new Forspoken gameplay trailer showing off 10 minutes of action.
The latest trailer, which is viewable below, offers a deeper look at the action RPG’s magic-enhanced combat and parkour systems.
It also shows off some of the corrupted enemies protagonist Frey encounters after being transported from New York to the game’s open, fantasy world of Athia.
“The gameplay trailer follows Frey on a quest from Athian archivist Johedy, as she ventures into the wilds of two corrupted areas, Praenost and Avoalet,” Square Enix said. “The two realms featured in the trailer give players a glimpse of the different enemies they will encounter and showcases the versatility of Frey’s magical combat skills.
“Players can choose to wreak magical havoc on enemies, fighting in a controlled frenzy and unleashing a barrage of quick-fire spells or they can take a more methodical approach wielding powerful and calculated attacks on their adversaries. In Forspoken, no two fights are ever the same.”
Announced for PS5 and PC in June 2020, Forspoken is the debut game from Square Enix’s Luminous Productions.
Last month the publisher delayed the game for a second time. Having originally been scheduled to arrive in May 2022, the Forspoken release date was pushed back by a further three and a half months, from October to January 24, 2023.
Square Enix has said it’s aiming to deliver “the highest quality visuals ever seen in an open world game” with Forspoken, which will be a PlayStation console exclusive for two years.
