Google has had enough of letting other manufacturers make their own iteration of the Wear OS watches and is finally coming up with a smartwatch to show how its done. The Pixel Watch, which was teased earlier, will now be revealed on October 6 as the first Google branded smartwatch and expectations are sky high, even though leaks reveal a simpler package. Google has shown how the watch looks and in a new teaser video, it gives us a closer look.
The Pixel Watch, as known, is one of the curviest watches we have seen in the smartwatch space lately. It even beats the Apple Watch Series 8 with its round dial and curved edges. You get a crown and a cleverly concealed button for controlling the watch. And then there are straps, which look no different than the ones you see on an Apple Watch and a Samsung Galaxy Watch. You will have three colours to choose from.
Google doesn't show much about the software part, but it is understood it will debut the latest iteration of Wear OS 3. Wear OS 3 has been mostly a Samsung Galaxy Watch exclusive so far, with the One UI skin on top. On the Pixel Watch, we could see a different design. Weirdly, Google only shows watch faces with black backgrounds, and black on an OLED display masks the display bezel nicely.
Based on the watch faces shown, it seems the Pixel Watch could have extremely thick display bezels; thicker than the ones on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro. Does that mean the entire user interface could be based on dark backgrounds? That is usually the case with Wear OS watches but we need to wait and see someone put a light background on the Pixel Watch's display. Google has gone bold with display bezels on previous Pixel phones and we won't be surprised to see something similar.
