Modding of the classic shooter is common in the DOOM community, with fans adding in new characters, environments, and gameplay elements. The DOOM series has been around since 1993, with seven main games in total being released for the series.
Typically, the DOOM series has centered around a space marine who is tasked with fighting demons and the undead in order to save humanity. The ground-breaking shooter series has always been mod friendly, and is considered by many to be one of the first games to popularize modding. The first few titles contained easily-edited WADs — short for "where's all the data?" — that players used to create new levels, characters, and more. As the series continued, DOOM developers would eventually release the source code to their games, allowing for even more freedom when it came to modding. Although outdated, WADs are still used in the illustrious world of DOOM modding today for use in source ports of the game.

A new mod from Doomworld user ContrastSaturation (via Destructoid) allows gamers to play as a vengeful Squidward in a detailed DOOM mod. The mod is entitled The Bikini Bottom Massacre, and follows Squidward, who is described as "just fired from his job at the Krusty Krab and is hell-bent on revenge." According to the description, the mod features 13 different levels that will sound familiar to Spongebob Squarepants fans, such as The Krusty Krab, Jellyfish Fields, and Rock Bottom.
