Shigeru Miyamoto reveals that Super Nintendo World had considered other IPs the theme park could have been based on, including Splatoon. This is the latest attraction added to Universal Studios Hollywood after being opened at Universal Studios Japan back in 2021. After a few tech rehearsals of Super Nintendo World earlier this January, the theme park finally opened on February 17 to the public. Among those who were at its grand opening was Shigeru Miyamoto, who supervised the construction of the park alongside Shinya Takahashi, a senior member at Nintendo. They revealed that other IPs at the time were considered for the theme park, including Splatoon.
Splatoon is one of Nintendo's newer IPs from its catalog of recognizable franchises. It made its debut on the Wii U in 2015, where it became a sudden smash hit for both the console and Nintendo, despite the trepidation and being released on the underperforming console. The surprise success of Splatoon led to the game getting two sequels, a representative in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and so much more media, that it was possible that Splatoon could have been part of the attraction alongside Super Mario.

In an interview with Polygon, both Miyamoto and Takahashi spoke about the creation of the theme park, bringing the colorful Mario world into real life.
