Warning: the following contains SPOILERS for Space Force.
Space Force season 1 introduced structural engineer and civilian contractor Kelly King (Jessica St. Clair) as General Mark Naird's (Steve Carrel) romantic interest – however, Kelly is notably missing in Space Force season 2. While it's not strange for a civilian contractor to move on to another project after her work with Space Force, especially considering how roughly things ended between Kelly and Mark's daughter Erin (Diana Silvers), what's unusual is that the entire cast of Space Force never discusses her again. Given Kelly's prominence and popularity as a character, this shift becomes doubly difficult to explain.
Kelly's first interaction with Mark was when she heard him singing alone in an isolated tunnel somewhere on the Space Force base, thinking that no one else could hear him. Rather than laughing at Mark, Kelly explains that she understands what Mark is going through, giving the Space Force commander a moment of comfort before he returns to his stressful duties. During Mark and his wife Maggie's (Lisa Kudrow) conjugal visit in prison, Maggie convinces Mark to consider having an open marriage, and encourages him to date someone. Later, Mark musters the courage to ask Kelly out. Erin finds out before Mark can break the news to her, which ultimately leads Erin to vandalizing Kelly's car, thinking that Mark is cheating on Maggie with Kelly. After that, from the beginning to the ending of Space Force season 2, Kelly never reappears or gets discussed ever again. In fact, Kelly's last scene is of her trying to fix what Erin did to her car.
