Ahead of its Open Launch period, Soulframe, the fantasy-themed spiritual successor to Digital Extremes’s own Warframe, has shown off a new Gameplay Spotlight trailer by way of Gamescom.
This new trailer shows a lot more “actual gameplay” footage than other previews of the Preludes, with the player character hacking and slashing at some new characters, plus some cinematic shots of happenings in the story. In the combat, there’s a mix of magic and weaponry, separately and in interplay, plus even some alternating weapon attacks, it seems.
All the while, the voiceover tells players, in short but drawn-out words, that magic is part of the land, and it’s free for the player to tap into. Indeed, in Soulframe, the player is the Envoy, a messenger and fighter who can drift between worlds, collecting helpful ancestors who build upon the player’s capabilities.
The Preludes Gameplay Spotlight, of course, focused more on the “hey, look, this is ready” angle, which is a helpful one given we’ve mostly seen Soulframe through small, private alpha tests and some streamed demos.
However, we do know more about Soulframe from tidbits here and there. For example, players can do co-op in groups of four, and the CEO has some lofty ambitions about how open-world matching could play out, per one of MMORPG’s Tennocon 2024 conversations with the game’s Community Manager.
The Soulframe team also said at Tennocon that Prologues specifically will have an Open Play period for anyone who signed up next month.
