It's not uncommon for gamers' opinions to change, as evidenced by the fact that a bunch of Sons of the Forest players have gone off the AI companion Kelvin following a recent update. As successful as the survival sequel was upon release, even going so far as to boost sales for Endnight's previous game The Forest, the hype has certainly died down. That's not to say the game isn't enjoyable, though there was one aspect of it that really pulled players in that has since been changed.
When it released on February 23, Sons of the Forest fans immediately fell in love with Kelvin, the mute and brain-damaged NPC who's been programmed to complete tasks set by the player. He offered a little company for those who were tackling the titular forest alone, while also proving useful by gathering logs and other materials. However, he wasn't perfect by any means, though it seems that his blunders were what made him so adored, and now the community is not as enamored by him.

As spotted by The Gamer, a thread on Reddit shows that some Sons of the Forest players are not as in love with Kelvin since the last big patch. The post, which was started by user SB10K, features a still from the classic 1972 film The Godfather in which Don Corleone expresses dismay over how his boy was massacred, referencing a specific moment in the film. SB10K has likened this to the way Endnight has changed how Kelvin functions in the game, and a few others have agreed that he's no longer the companion they once loved. One user even outright said that they «hate Kelvin now.»
