Simon Pegg recalls his hilarious first meeting with Carrie Fisher at Comic Con and his subsequent interactions with the actress on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Pegg, a popular British actor known for his roles in Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, and several Edgar Wright films, plays Unkar Plutt in The Force Awakens. Unkar Plutt is part of the Crolute species from Jakku.
Though Unkar Plutt had limited screen time within the J. J. Abrams-directed Star Wars feature, Pegg still had the opportunity to meet one of his idols on the set of The Force Awakens: Carrie Fisher. Fisher’s Princess Leia in The Force Awakensis older, and wiser, a seasoned character with a deep backstory unlike Pegg’s newly-introduced Unkar Plutt. The Force Awakenswas one of Fisher’s last on-screen roles before her tragic death in 2016, before the start of filming for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Fortunately for Pegg, he got the opportunity to meet the iconic talent behind Princess Leia, twice. The first meeting was back in 2004, at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC). According to The Sunday Times, it was at SDCC Pegg shared with Fisher how much he had worshiped her as a child. In fact, Pegg had a poster of Fisher taped to his bedroom wall that he would kiss goodnight. Upon revealing this to Fisher, she dryly said “Do you feel better for telling me that?” The two reunited on the set of The Force Awakens. According to The Sunday Times, the two had this priceless interaction one day:
