There are many heroes in the Spider-Verse, with a diverse array of powers and Silk may have the most unique of them all and a new cosplay captures her in action. Reddit user Chunlienn shared a series of outtakes from a recent photo shoot, celebrating Silk’s incredible powers.
Silk, created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, first appeared in 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man #1. Her real name is Cindy Moon, and as a young woman, she was bitten by the same radioactive spider that gave Peter Parker his powers. Much like Parker, Moon gained fantastic, spider-based powers, such as the ability to scale up walls. Unlike Parker, however, she was unable to control them. Silk and Spider-Man’s powers are virtually the same, except for one key difference: Silk’s web materials are produced organically, in her fingernails whereas Spider-Man uses artificial means. A man named Ezekiel Sims trained Cindy in the use of her powers, and then promptly locked her away for seven years, to protect her from Morlun. Spider-Man learned of her existence during the Original Sin crossover event and freed her from Sims’ imprisonment. Now liberated, Moon takes the name Silk, and embarks on a heroic career of her own, fighting alongside Spider-Man and other Spider-avatars during the Spider-Verse event. Silk has starred in a handful of solo series and will soon receive her own live-action show on Amazon Prime. Silk has inspired cosplay as well and Reddit cosplayer Chunlienn’s new shoot shows Silk using her unique abilities.
