The debut chapter of Shonen Jump's new detective manga series Super Smartphone starts with such an intriguingly upsetting mystery that the next installments will have a tought time topping it. Subsequent chapters will need to somehow explore an even darker subject matter to keep readers engaged — and it's not likely that this will happen.
By Hiroki Tomisawa and Kentaro Hidano,the new manga Super Smartphone follows first-year high school student Kyu Sagurada as he stumbles across a special device that uses a browser similar to Google called Googugu, which can search for anything in the world — with some rules and exceptions, of course. Beyond Googugu, Kyu is haunted by the disappearance of his brother years ago, a tragedy that undoubtedly contributes to his slacking off at school despite being a literal genius. Kyu, however, blames his laziness on how it's much more stimulating to find innovative methods to fail, all of which must follow certain criteria that he sets for himself beforehand.

In the first chapter of this new Shonen Jump manga series, Kyu tests out Googugu to see whether the device is legitimate or not. After that his first major use of Googugu involves him tackling the kidnapping case of a young girl who recently went missing. Although Kyu would like to utilize Googugu's vast knowledge to help solve his brother's disappearance, the smartphone refuses, as its goal is for Kyu to rack up as many points as possible, which Kyu accomplishes by searching for anything on Googugu.
