When Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) finally appeared in She-Hulk this season, he had a surprising new look not seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While on-screen we've primarily seen Daredevil in his iconic red leathers and, in some cases, a homemade black suit, he appeared on She-Hulk in a red and gold version of his costume, which nods back to the character's comic book origins from his first appearance in 1964.
If you're wondering whose idea it was to put Matt Murdock in the classic look, wonder no more. Speaking to GameSpot, She-Hulk director Kat Coiro revealed the not-so-surprising answer.
This idea came from [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige]," she said. «Kevin is so hands-on and I think the most surprising thing to me about entering the MCU was you think they have a billion projects going on, there's no way he's laser-focused on every single one but he is. There are so many little details from the series that come directly from the mind of Kevin. And the color of the costume was definitely 100% from him.»
Once Feige knew what he wanted, he took it to the She-Hulk team. «He collaborated with our amazing customer Ann Foley to pay respects to all the versions of Daredevil that have been brought into the world, but definitely with an homage to the original,» Coiro explained.
As for Cox's reaction to his new outfit, the director admitted, «Charlie was just so open to it. I mean, he's such an open, thoughtful, wonderful actor.» And, luckily, the introduction of a superhero suit tailor in this season of She-Hulk made for an easy way to explain Daredevil's changing color scheme.
