Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings writer Dave Callaham gets an MCU-themed tattoo after losing a bet with the film’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton. Marvel Studios’ 25th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a massive hit upon its release in September 2021. The film introduces audiences to the titular Master of Kung Fu (Simu Liu) as he combats his estranged father and his criminal organization, the Ten Rings. In addition to Liu as Marvel’s first Asian lead, Shang-Chi features a predominantly Asian and Asian-American cast including Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, Benedict Wong, and Fala Chen. Before the gargantuan release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Shang-Chi was the highest-grossing film of last year.
As Shang-Chi reframes Ben Kingsley’s Mandarin from Iron Man 3 by introducing the real Mandarin in Wenwu (Tony Leung). In the film, it’s revealed that failed actor Trevor Slattery was taken captive by Shang-Chi’s father and forced to perform or be killed. When Shang-Chi, Katy (Awkwafina), and Xialing (Meng'er Zhang) stumble upon Trevor beneath Wenwu’s compound, they also meet his best friend Morris — the adorable, six-legged, faceless Dijiang who originates from the mystical city of Ta Lo and is inspired by the Chinese God of Chaos. Now, Cretton has revealed that Shang-Chi’s Morris appearance was a contentious issue.

Cretton recently took to Instagram to reveal that screenwriter Callaham has to get a Morris tattoo after a «two-year bet.» When the pair came up with the idea to put the six-legged creature in Shang-Chi, they made a deal that if he wasn't cut from the final edit, Callaham “would add him to his personal tattoo collection."
