Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsconcept artist Andrew Kim shares the true story behind a recently surfaced piece involving Deadpool and Proxima Midnight. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Shang-Chi was one of Marvel's four big screen releases last year, and, for a time, it was the biggest. The film stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, an unassuming valet with a dark past. As the movie revealed, Shang-Chi was trained by his villainous father Wenwu (Tony Leung) to be the perfect assassin, but Shang-Chi ran away when he was a teen. Shang-Chi the movie picks up when his past comes calling in a major way.
Though it came out back in September, Shang-Chi found itself back in the news recently thanks to a new piece of concept art that emerged online. The art depicted an early look at the underground fighting ring run by Xialing (Meng'er Zhang), Shang-Chi's sister. In the movie, Wong (Benedict Wong) and Abomination (Tim Roth) are the ones battling it out, but the initial Shang-Chi art had two vastly different characters fighting: Deadpool and Proxima Midnight. This led some to wonder if Shang-Chi once considered a Deadpool cameo.

Now the man behind the art has cleared up any confusion. Andrew Kim spoke to Chatter Box Film and shared his side of things. To start, no, Shang-Chi was never poised to include a hand-to-hand fight between Deadpool and Proxima Midnight. Instead, Kim just wanted to utilize their fighting styles to visualize the ring. He said:
