While Shang-Chi and his allies are some of the toughest fighters in the Marvel Universe, he and at least one of his fellow warriors have the worst codenames. Shang-Chi has never paid any mind to his codename as he refuses to use it, preferring his given name and his fists being the only source of his brutal reputation. However, in his latest comic book adventure, his greatest ally is shown flaunting his moniker with pride, though Marvel makes it clear why he shouldn’t.
In Shang-Chi #10 by Gene Luen Yang and Marcus To, Shang-Chi is being hunted by his grandfather, Chieftain Xin, who has taken a vow to kill anyone who shares the blood of Shang-Chi’s father, Zheng Zu. So, Shang-Chi is on a mission to break his brother/greatest ally, Takeshi, out of prison in an effort to both ensure his brother’s safety as well as recruit him to fight back against their villainous grandfather.

Before Shang-Chi launches his brother’s prison break, Takeshi is being escorted to his cell after he fought off a horde of monsters who attacked him. During that fight, Takeshi molded his metal food tray into a blade with his bare hands, a skill that he has exhibited before and one that earned him the codename: «Deadly Sabre.» When taking him back to his cell, one of the prison guards says, “Make a note. No more metal food trays for Lethal Weapon over here” to which Shang-Chi's brother replies, “I told you, it’s Deadly Sabre.” The prison guard’s comment can be seen as a dig at how mediocre Takeshi’s codename is. «Deadly Sabre» is a name that seems like it’s trying too hard to be intimidating, like the fighter behind the moniker
