At long last, Sega remembered that it has a Not Sonic series, reviving Samba de Amigo after 15 years. For ages, Sega's Dreamcast lineup of game characters had been relegated to supporting roles, getting a spot in team-up games with Sonic if they were lucky. But with Samba de Amigo: Party Central coming to Switch on August 29 of this year, fans are hoping more classics could be brought back from the dead.
Better yet, Sega is actually well aware of this feeling among fans. Speaking with VGC, Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka hints that more revivals are on the way, with Sega "ramping up and hiring lots of people" recently, and saying that we might "hear about these kinds of titles" soon.

Towards the end of the interview, Iizuka is asked about Sega's projects outside of Sonic, especially now that the Blue Blur so has many releases to juggle. While Iizuka can't share much, he certainly sounds optimistic that classic Sega fans are in for a treat.
"These days I’m the creative officer for Sonic the Hedgehog, so I’m totally focused on that side of the business," says Iizuka. "So I can’t really speak for anyone else, but Sonic Team in Japan has been ramping up and hiring lots of people recently - they have more people than ever. So there may be some future where you’ll be hearing about these kinds of titles."
Well, that's definitely not a no, or even letting us down gently. While it doesn't sound like we should expect a Nights remake to shadowdrop tomorrow, Sega is at least cooking something with its larger workforce - something hopefully related to a long-abandoned franchise that could do with a little love.
