Screamdirectors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett reveal which of the movie's two Ghostface killers is behind most of the murders, and why that is. With four movies and a television show under its belt, the Scream franchise returned to the big screen this year with a fifth film that brings everything back to the original. Even its title harkens back to the 1996 Wes Craven classic. With a meta edge that takes on toxic fandom and legacy sequels, Scream has once again brought a fresh twist to a franchise that has seen its fair share of ups and downs.
Much like the first movie, Scream has two Ghostface killers: Richie (Jack Quaid) and Amber (Mikey Madison), who are driven by their love of movies. Specifically, they are die hard fans of the Stab franchise, the in-universe equivalent to the Scream series. Determined to get the Stab movies back on track after a misguided eighth installment (amusingly directed by Rian Johnson), Richie and Amber launch their own «requel» by targeting relatives of past Scream characters.

After the killers are revealed, Scream fans often enjoy going back and working out which Ghostface carried out each murder. Speaking to Collider in a recent interview, Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett pinned most of the deaths on one person: Amber. Gillett said, "We have a bit of a roadmap. With the exception of the opening, which we think you could say was both of them, it’s mostly Amber. She’s f*cking crazy!" It turns out there was a reason for this baked into their characters, as Gillett then went to explain:
“We had separate conversations with Jack and Mikey, and then we had a conversation with them
