Sasha Banks' WWE contract is reportedly up in just two months, which makes her leaving the company for AEW a real possibility. It's speculation, of course, but it isn't too difficult to do the math on this one. AEW is still building its women's division, while Banks' future with WWE is very much up in the air. As had been widely reported, Sasha Banks walked out on Monday Night Raw on May 16 alongside tag-team partner Naomi. In a statement, WWE's public relations department stated that the duo walked into John Laurinaitis' office (he's head of talent relations for the company), put their tag-team title belts on his desk, and left with their luggage in tow. This forced a change of the advertised main event, which is likely why WWE went ahead and acknowledged the walkout on-air and online.
There are a few badly kept secrets in play here. For starters, Banks has been unhappy with WWE creative for at least several weeks now, and things came to a head on Monday night at Raw. Creative apparently was leading Banks toward losing a match against Ronda Rousey soon, presumably at the Hell In A Cell premium live event, while WWE's Naomi had been booked to win the six-pack challenge main event on Raw, but would just go on to lose to Bianca Belair at the same premium event. This led to fair questions about the direction of the women's tag team division on the whole, and word is that neither Banks nor Vince McMahon was willing to back down in terms of this creative direction.
