Sam Raimi "Laughed His Head Off" When He Was Told The Plot Of Spider-Man: No Way Home
Director Sam Raimi has found himself in a situation he probably wouldn't have expected back when he was working on the original Spider-Man trilogy. His latest Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has just opened in cinemas, right off the back of another Spider-Man movie - that he didn't direct. Oh, and it had three Spideys in it, one of which was Tobey Maguire. And as we now know, the absurdity of the situation certainly isn't lost on him.
In a recent interview, Raimi shares that he was forewarned about the plot of Spider-Man: No Way Home - and he "laughed [his] head off". He says the plan sounded "outrageous", although admitted that it "worked just as much as everyone hoped it would" and surpassed his expectations.

"On that film, I had inside knowledge", Raimi told Radio Times, promoting the new Doctor Strange. "Marvel executives pulled me aside, and said, ‘Sam, here’s what we’re going to do.'
"They explained to me the plot. I laughed my head off when I heard it. It was just so outrageous. And it worked just as much as everyone hoped it would – even more so."
Raimi had to stay in contact with the No Way Home team after the MCU schedule changed. Originally, Doctor Strange was set to come first, but when that was moved around, "last minute changes" had to be made to the Multiverse of Madness story.
"You know, while we were shooting, they were shooting. But they were making changes. And we had to call them and say, ‘Does Doctor Strange remember anything of the multiverse? Or does he not remember the multiverse?’", Raimi shares.
