Ryan Gosling almost became a new addition to the cast for season 3 of Donald Glover's Atlanta. TheLa La Land actor is known for blockbusters such asBlade Runner 2049, The Notebook, and Drive, as well as smaller indie films, such as Blue Valentine and Murder By Numbers. Atlanta season 3 premiered March 24 on FX and Hulu after several delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The series follows Earn (Glover) and his cousin Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry) as they attempt to break into the rap industry in Atlanta, Georgia.
Glover recently told People that Gosling almost joined Atlanta season 3's cast. One reason why Gosling considered joining the series is because he is a fan, which made Glover excited at the prospect of working together. Glover also details that he and Gosling had conversations via phone about the role which Glover feels he was well suited for. Unfortunately, Gosling participating in season 3 of Atlanta did not come to fruition due to scheduling conflicts.

Gosling's most recent film, The Gray Man, is set to release in July 2022 and may be part of the reason why his schedule could not accommodate also filming Atlanta season 3. The series filmed most of season 3 in London as opposed to Atlanta due to season 2 ending with Earn about to depart for a European tour with Alfred and Darius (LaKeith Stanfield). Glover did not reveal the name of the character which he envisioned Gosling for, but viewers will have to speculate who it may be as they watch the rest of Atlanta season 3.
