An Auto Turret is a defensive placeable entity in Rust that detects and shoots enemy targets with its installed weaponry. Consuming 10 rWm or Rust watts per minute, turrets can fire at enemies from the range of their armament and aim at a 180-degree radius from the direction they are facing. Their aim is quite versatile, being able to shoot at targets in Rust through non-solid surfaces, such as prison cell walls or chain-link fences.
Rust Auto Turrets have two modes: Peacekeeper and Attack All. When set to Peacekeeper Mode, the turret will attack hostile players with the «red-dot icon,» and Attack All will empty rounds at any unauthorized player who hasn't been manually input into the turret's recognition system. If a turret's owner wants the device to detect players but not fire at them, they can install a Trumpet that will «toot» at any trespassers or unauthorized personnel in Rust.

Rust offers several ways to procure Auto Turrets for defending one's base. The first yet RNG-based method is finding a Turret as random loot. Turrets can spawn in Military Crates, Locked (timer) Crates, and even on the bodies of Scientists in Rust. However, bear in mind that the spawn chances are significantly low — between 0.08% and 2%. Alternatively, players can purchase an Auto Turret from the Outpost Vending Machines for 400 Scrap.
Naturally, the optimal and most reliable to acquire Auto Turrets is through crafting, which is also the method for efficiently obtaining multiple turrets. The Auto Turret is a Tier-2/Level 2 Workbench recipe, costing 730 Scrap within the crafting Tech Tree. If players already have an Auto Turret in their inventory, they can research it directly
