Thor: Love and Thunder star Russell Crowe has found his next project in the form of Julius Avery's supernatural thriller film The Pope's Exorcist. Based on the internationally bestselling memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories, the film revolves around Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican's chief exorcist who performed over 100,000 exorcisms. The legendary Italian priest, who died in 2016, left behind a trove of additional accounts of his exploits pulling the devil out of people from all over the world.
Now, it's been reported by Deadline that Crowe will take on the role of Father Gabriele in the supernatural thriller movie The Pope's Exorcist, which has been in development at Screen Gems for quite some time. Overlord director Avery will helm the project. The current draft of the screenplay is penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast) and includes revisions by Chuck MacLean (City on a Hill). Production on The Pope's Exorcist is expected to begin this September.
