Your Roku devices may be getting some handy new features with the rollout of Roku OS 11.
The update is expected to reach select Roku streaming players and Streambars (details below) and all Roku TV models.
One of the highlight features is a new tool called Photo Streams, which will allow you to create a personalized screensaver by uploading your own images to your Roku devices from a phone or computer. You can share Photo Streams with friends and family, letting them view and contribute photos to the Stream. Roku likens it to turning TVs into large digital photo frames.
Also in Roku OS 11 are audio options like a speech-clarity mode to help dialogue stand out in the audio mix, as well as new sound modes: Standard, Dialogue, Movie, Music, and Night. Roku is also expanding audio/visual sync to support player and audio devices with a calibration tool in the Roku mobile app, provided that app is connected to your Roku player or Streambar.
The mobile app gets another update with a more visual and detail-rich interface for browsing content, including images of cast and crew as well as indicating which streaming platforms offer searched-for content.
The home screen is getting a tweak with a new "What to Watch" section, which will recommend content from apps you use more frequently, and a Live TV update to show recently viewed live content and suggest new live content.
Finally, the OS update extends the functionality of the voice-enabled keyboard to support German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
