Following a disappointing reveal at the PlayStation State of Play earlier this year, Rocksteady took another stab at introducing fans to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with the first entry in a new video series called Suicide Squad Insider.
The 20 minute series debut puts the game's story and gameplay in focus. The basic structure of the story is the same as we'd seen previously: Brainiac has taken over Metropolis and the Justice League along with it. The Suicide Squad aren't necessarily the ideal group to take on these veritable gods and save Metropolis, but sometimes you've got to go to war with the army you've got, even if they are a couple of gun-toting psychopaths.
To even the odds a bit, the Suicide Squad loot the Hall of Justice for some extra function and firepower. Harley Quinn nabs herself Batman's iconic grappling hook and glider, Captain Boomerang zooms around like the Flash using Dr. Sivana's Speed Force gauntlet, Deadshot gets a jetpack, and King Shark, well, he tries on the Riddler's hat for a bit.
The developers are quick to point out that the game is a co-operative shooter and that Rocksteady has put significant emphasis on the game's traversal options, which need to be both effective and satisfying in an open world boasted to be twice as large as the one found in Batman: Arkham Knight.
Combat mechanics offer a mix of a melee and gunplay and Rocksteady has worked to adapt the Arkham games' popular and now ubiquitous Counter feature with a new iteration called Counter Shot. It works the way it sounds. Counter Shot allows you to react the way Batman would to incoming melee attacks in melee, but this time at a distance by shooting your foes.
