The first trailer for Rob Zombie's highly-anticipated film, The Munsters has arrived, taking the macabre family back to their mod and pop roots., premiered. Zombie, the frontman of the horror-themed metal band White Zombie and director of some truly disturbing horror movies of his own, looks to be dipping his toe in the PG pool, based on this look at his Munsters.
The film stars Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa, following the iconic 1960s' show's original premise of gentle monsters who have to move from Transylvania to the American suburbs. You can check out the trailer below.
The trailer has exponentially more camp than probably expected, with heightened colors and homages to some of the original show's most famous scenes, notably from the episode «Far Out Munsters.» The show originally starred Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo, and Al Lewis in the roles of Herman, Lily, and Grandpa. All share similarities to the original designs of the characters, with Roebuck's Grandpa now sporting a handlebar mustache that mirrors Vlad Tepes'.
Butch Patrick and Pat Priest, who appeared in the original Munsters series as Eddie and Marylin Munster are also part of the cast.
Zombie, who also wrote the script, has been teasing images from the set for months from his Instagram account. The film was shot on location in Budapest, Hungary, with the entire Mockingbird Lane neighborhood being constructed from the ground up.
The Munsters hits theaters this September.
