With all the buzz building for Summer Games Fest and all the reveals and announcements its bringing, it can be easy to forget that there are many exciting releases already rounding the corner. Final Fantasy XVI is one, and now it’s confirmed that Apogee Entertainment’s and Nightdive Studio’s Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition is another. It’ll be bringing back all of the classic FPS’ insane action to PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch on July 31. Even better, those curious about trying it will be able to on July 19 via a Shareware demo!
As those who’ve been following the game are no doubt aware, Rise of the Triad: Ludicrous Edition isn’t just a re-release of the original 90’s version. Certainly all it’s back and remastered to 4K specs, but this edition also allows for an unlimited frame rate comes packed with all of the expansion as well.
Further, the studio has apparently restored and integrated content from at least some of Rise of the Triad’s “lost” betas, added an all-new level editor, made it possible to swap between the 1995 and 2013 soundtracks, and even created a new episode just for this release. Of course, both online and LAN multiplayer are also supported. Altogether, it’s about as definitive as a “definitive” edition can be.
Those who are fans of the original Rise of the Triad almost surely don’t need any convincing here, but what about those who’ve never even heard of this 90s FPS?
