Bershan Shaw is addressing her friend role on The Real Housewives of New York City and why Eboni K. Williams was a 'safe' choice as the franchise's first Black housewife. While RHONY is on hiatus, Bershan is speaking about her appearance in season 13. Bershan was cast in a friend role while Eboni held an apple alongside the other full-timers. During a recent interview, Bershan explained she wasn't made full-time and how Eboni seemingly fit more of the mold producers were comfortable having as a show regular.
Despite only making a few brief appearances in season 13, Berhsan made a statement. Her spat with Sonja Morgan left the cast wondering if Sonja was getting a little too tipsy during filming. Bershan also became at odds with Eboni over their opposing views on bringing race into question. Bershan and Eboni had different approaches to issues around race and politics and it put a wedge between them. But with race possibly being the reason season 13 was canceled and the show has been put on hiatus, speculation has mounted about if Eboni was the right person to make history as the first Black housewife.

Bershan had the energy and outspoken personality that typically helps add to the Housewives dynamic. However, in the end, a former news analyst and attorney was chosen to fill the void. When asked why she thinks she was snubbed for being full-time, Bershan alluded to Eboni's physical appearance as a factor. Recalling a recent interviewer she spoke to, Bershan said she was told "'You're in your face. You're in someone's face with passion'" Bershan told Black Enterprise.
