The recently-announced Star Wars FPS game from Respawn Entertainment is likely to be the best-looking Star Wars shooter to date if a job posting requesting experience with Unreal Engine 5 is any indication. The latest version of the software, like every iteration before it, looks to push forward graphics capabilities, and with technological advancements happening all the time, a game like this one, just announced and likely early in development, should be able to take full advantage of all the engine offers.
The world got its first glimpse at the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 during 2020’s Summer Games Fest, where a gorgeous PS5 tech demo showed off some impressive visuals. Since then, various studios and creators have taken to the new engine for their new games, with some, like The Coalition, claiming to have multiple projects in development using Unreal Engine 5. Some talented creators have recreated iconic scenes and moments from various games in the new engine, giving a sense of what it could be to the newest iterations of popular franchises. Even movie tie-ins are using the new tech, with The Matrix Awakens functioning both as marketing for The Matrix: Resurrections and a tech demo for Unreal Engine 5. Clearly, this engine has quite a few fans.

Respawn Entertainment appears to be on that list, judging by a job posting on Respawn’s site for a Lead Combat Designer, ideally with experience in Unreal Engine 5. It’s just one line in the job requirements, and it doesn’t give any more info about the game itself, but the potential there is intriguing.
