Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7, will direct the next new entry in the Resident Evil series.
As confirmed during the Capcom Next digital showcase, Nakanishi will helm the next new entry in the series, expected to be Resident Evil 9.
“It was difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7,” Nakanishi said.
“But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can’t share any details yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”
While yet to be officially revealed by Capcom, reports of Resident Evil 9’s progress have increased in recent months.
According to insider Dusk Golem, Resident Evil 9 could be set for release in early 2025. Dusk Golem has a strong track record of revealing confidential information about upcoming video games before they are made public.
“The possible delay I had heard murmurs about can be pushed aside,” they said. “Resident Evil 9 should be revealed pretty soon and release next year. If what I heard previously holds true, [it] should be in January. It’ll have had about seven years in development.”
The insider also claims that Resident Evil 9 started development in 2018 as a potential eight entry in the main series. At this time, Resident Evil Village was seen as a spin-off project, before eventually becoming the eighth main entry.
Dusk Golem also previously claimed that Resident Evil 9 could be an open-world title.
At the time of this claim they said: “Dragon’s Dogma 2 expanded RE Engine functionality for open-world games, the two other games building on this tech are Monster Hunter Wild and Resident Evil 9.”
