Capcom has announced that its current-gen updates for Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil: Biohazard are available today.
Each update includes new current-gen features including 4K support, improved framerates and ray tracing.
They also include 3D audio, for “an even more immersive experience,” according to Capcom.
All three updates are available today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
Players who already own any of the games on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One can upgrade to the current-gen version for free via either a digital upgrade programme on PS5, or Smart Delivery on Xbox Series X/S.
An update patch will also be available for PC users, so they can enhance their version to match.
Both Resident Evil 7 and the Resident Evil 2 remake were met with extremely positive reviews, with both games being cited as a return to form for the franchise.
However, Resident Evil 3‘s remake wasn’t as popular with critics. This was due in some part to the remake’s changes to the original game.
In our Resident Evil 3 review, we said: “Print out a walkthrough for the original Resi 3 and you may as well have printed out a cheesecake recipe for all the good it’ll do you: this is a completely different game.”
Capcom recently confirmed that a Resident Evil 4 remake is in development and is scheduled to release on March 24, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
According to Capcom, Resident Evil 4 remake will preserve the essence of the original game, while “introducing modernized gameplay, a reimagined storyline, and vividly detailed graphics”.
