A known Rockstar Games leaker has claimed that Red Dead Redemption 2 will not be getting a new-gen upgrade. Rockstar has a history of releasing new versions of its titles across multiple console generations, mainly with the Grand Theft Auto series. 2013's Grand Theft Auto V - which initially launched on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 - was re-released on the last generation of consoles, and received yet another upgrade for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in March 2022.
Rockstar's western Red Dead Redemption franchise, however, has had less attention paid to it in terms of rereleases despite its critical and commercial success, with its latest entry, Red Dead Redemption 2 selling over 44 million copies as of May 2022. It was rumored that 2010's Red Dead Redemption was due for a remake along with GTA 4 to bring it to modern consoles and possibly to the PC for the first time. However, these plans were allegedly scrapped in the wake of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition's release, which was almost universally criticized for its many bugs and missing features.
