A massive Red Dead Redemption 2 mod has found a way to make the game's impressive open-world even more realistic. Rockstar's western sequel was already highly praised upon its release in 2018 for its powerful storytelling and rich and detailed world. The sheer detail present in the game pushed the limits of what last-gen consoles were capable of.
Despite this almost universally high praise, there have been very few updates for Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as its supposedly ongoing online service,Red Dead Online. Over the four years since its release Rockstar appears to have let Red Dead Online fall by the wayside as it continues to focus on rereleases of GTA V and Online and adding more updates and features to the nine-year-old open-world title instead. As a result, the modding community has taken it upon themselves to update and improve Red Dead Redemption 2 instead.

To that end, modder no12 and their dedicated team of collaborators have made Vestiga (via PCGamesN), a massive overhaul to Red Dead Redemption 2's open-world that is the result of more than a year’s work and in the modder's own words, contains “four mods in one." The four mods in question include two that surround the game's weather mechanics and visuals, one focusing on the world's flora & terrain, and the last improving RDR2's population and NPC AI. The weather systems allow for more gradual and realistic transitions between weather types and temperature while rendering them out in more detail than before.
