Audiences aren't the only one missing the late star's presence as Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya reflects on making the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie with Chadwick Boseman. Kaluuya starred in the first film as W'Kabi, a close confidant to Boseman's titular hero and his best friend, as well as husband to Danai Gurira's Okoye. W'Kabi, the head of security for the Border Tribe of Wakanda, comes into conflict with T'Challa after learning of his failure to capture Ulysses Klaue, who murdered his parents, and initially helps Killmonger in his rise to power when he delivers Klaue's dead body, though ultimately surrenders when confronted by Okoye during the film's final battle.
Early reports of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's development had Kaluuya slated to return as W'Kabi for the MCU sequel along with Lupita Nyong'o as Nakia, Gurira as Okoye, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M'Baku and Angela Bassett as Ramonda. Production on the film has endured a number of hurdles, namely that of Boseman's death from colon cancer in the midst of development, as well as various COVID-19-related delays and shutdowns and Wright suffering multiple injuries during shooting. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever finally wrapped this past March, but two stars were notably absent from the set and one is opening up about their time on the first film.
