Following rumors and a ratings board listing, id Software’s remaster of Quake 2 is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Retailing for $9.99, it features the original game, The Reckoning and Ground Zero mission packs, Quake 2 64 and a new expansion pack, Call of the Machine. Check out the trailer below, courtesy of Gematsu.
Like Quake’s remaster, Quake 2 supports 4K (which varies for each platform) and widescreen displays with improved models, enemy animations, dynamic lighting, depth of field, anti-aliasing and more. AI behavior is improved and “restored” while cinematics are also enhanced. Don’t worry – Sonic Mayhem’s original soundtrack is still intact.
As for Call of the Machine, it includes 28 new campaign levels and a Deathmatch map. The remaster also includes four-player online co-op and local split-screen. Split-screen supports four players in Deathmatch (eight-player on Xbox Series X/S), while online play accommodates up to 16 players. You can also use bots for offline and online Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch.
PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch also benefit from gyro controls, while xCloud is supported for Xbox and Windows via Game Pass Ultimate.
