A LEGO and PlayStation fan has submitted their idea for an official set design based on Sony's PSP console, and it could become a reality with enough support. One of the company's most notable forays into handheld gaming, the PlayStation Portable is still fondly remembered to this day, despite the closure of the PSP's digital storefront in summer last year.
The PSP first released in Japan in 2004, before migrating to the West in 2005. A competitor to Nintendo's highly successful DS line of handhelds, the PSP was primed for success as Sony's first portable gaming system. The console boasted a number of features, including the ability to connect to PS2 and PS3 consoles, and was praised by critics and players alike. Sony shipped over 80 million units of the PSP, but its successor, the PlayStation Vita was considered a commercial flop. The company has seemingly since shied away from handheld launches, instead favoring home consoles, though a new interest in handhelds has been bolstered by upcoming releases like Valve's handheld Steam Deck, as well as Xbox's cloud gaming functions for mobile devices.

Created by user RevanBuilds, the impressive LEGO Ideas PSP design is a near-perfect replica of the classic handheld console. The design includes almost all of the console buttons — including PlayStation's iconic symbol buttons — along with a screen showing the signature PS loading design. The new submission to LEGO Ideas is slowly building traction, with fans already showing their support despite the initiative only being proposed today, February 17. The Idea will need 10,000 votes to be considered by The LEGO Group for official manufacture.
