Sony Has Reportedly Shipped Secret PlayStation Prototypes to Virginia
As Sony heads into the second year of the PS5 lifecycle, and as the pandemic turns a corner, the Japanese company will certainly be ramping up production on its most popular system to get it into as many gamers' households as possible. Couple that with the newly revealed PlayStation VR2, and it's looking like Sony will definitely have its hands full in 2022. However, it seems like secret PlayStation prototypes have sprung up in Virginia, having been recently shipped from London in November. It is not currently clear what sort of PlayStation systems these are.
Gaming site Tweak Town recently unearthed a ledger from Sony Interactive Entertainment's exports that details 700kgs worth of video game console prototypes. This 4-carton package was shipped on November 16, 2021 from Sony's headquarters in London to Norfolk Virginia, although exactly why it has landed in Virginia remains a mystery. PlayStation's main headquarters currently sits in San Mateo, California, so it is likely Virginia was just a stop along the journey to the west coast.

As for what exactly sits in these 4-cartons of gaming system prototypes is really anyone's guess. Realistically, it could only be one of two different types of systems: either they are PS5 prototypes, or are related to PSVR2. Most commonly, gaming companies start work on the next iteration of hardware right as the first is out the gate, so it is possible these systems could be prototypes for an updated hardware iteration of the PlayStation 5, much in the same vein as the PlayStation 4 Pro.
