The three new tiers of PS Plus are now available in parts of Asia, with PS1 games gaining new save states and a rewind option.
It’s not due to launch in the UK until June 22 but Sony’s revamped PlayStation Plus service went live today in Asia and naturally that’s meant that footage has begun to leak out to the rest of the world.
There’s still no definitive list of games available though and so far the only new title that’s been confirmed is 1997 PlayStation 1 game Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee.
However, it has emerged that games on the service have a range of new visual enhancements, as well as save states and the ability to rewind your gameplay.
PlayStation 1 games, at least, have multiple screen options, including native 4:3, and three screen filter options: default, modern, and retro classic – to give the impression you’re playing on an older pre-HD display.
These are fairly standard features by now, for any emulated game, but they’re not something Sony has talked about before and it’s unclear which games will have which features.
In fact, Sony has been criticised for providing only the bare minimum of information about the service, with things like trophy support only coming to light thanks to a tweet from a developer.
The PlayStation Plus revamp will have a staggered worldwide launch and while live now in some Asian territories it won’t be available in Japan until June 1. It then doesn’t launch in the US until June 13, with Europe left to last on June 22.
More information will no doubt emerge from Asia over the coming days but there will, presumably, be a major marketing push in the weeks ahead of the US launch.
