The player must have 1 electrical skill and 2 mechanics skill, or select the stealth-like Burglar profession when creating their character. Electrical skill in Project Zomboid can be acquired by dismantling electronics. To do this, players need to find a screwdriver; these can be found almost anywhere with a bit of luck, but are much more likely to be in hardware stores, vehicles, and storage crates within warehouses and other similar buildings. Once players acquire their screwdriver, they can locate electronic devices such as earbuds, CD players, or digital watches, and dismantle them for various electronic parts as well as electrical skill.
Mechanics skill in Project Zomboid can be acquired by installing or removing vehicle parts. The exact tool needed depends on the part in question, and players must have knowledge of the vehicle through a magazine or skill before working on them.
