This week Amazon’s Prime Video is releasing a new horror-thriller starring Regina Hall, an erotic psychological thriller starring Ben Affleck, and also continuing their weekly releases. The last two years have seen plenty of delays to production and release schedules due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After a period where several large blockbusters, such as Black Widow and The Suicide Squad were released directly to streaming, many studios returned to holding large theatrical releases for their films. However, as the pandemic has continued, some studios have continued to release directly to streaming, in theaters and streaming in tandem, or released films to streaming faster than they once did. This was seen with Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania releasing directly to Amazon’s Prime Video and Turning Redreleasing directly on Disney+ after both were bumped from planned theatrical releases. This move to streaming is a benefit for audiences who prefer to stay in the comfort and safety of their own homes where streaming services like Amazon's Prime Video have plenty of fresh content to enjoy.
Last week, Amazon debuted Upload season 2 in its entirety. Upload is a science fiction comedy TV series based in a future where humans can upload their minds into a virtual afterlife when they die. Upload stars Robbie Amell as Nathan Brown. Prime Video also received the Amazon Original Indian movie Gehraiyaann in the United States. The movie is a romantic drama that follows a yoga instructor trying to develop an app while juggling romantic interests.
