Poppy Playtime was first released on PC and its control scheme was built around using a mouse and keyboard. It is possible to use a controller with Poppy Playtime, but the player needs to go outside of the boundaries of the game to do so. Luckily, it's not that difficult to set up.
The first chapter of Poppy Playtime is currently available on PC and mobile devices, with no word regarding any other ports. The developers are hard at work on Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, which is set to launch in 2022, so further support for the first chapter is likely not a priority at this time. It's unclear how many chapters the game will receive in the future. The developers might want to wait until the entire game is finished before bringing it to consoles in a more complete form.

As of the time of writing, Poppy Playtime lacks any kind of internal controller support. It's impossible to rebind the controls to a joypad using the in-game menu. If the first chapter of Poppy Playtime receives an official console port, then controller support will be needed, and it will likely be patched into the PC version as well. Poppy Playtime on mobile devices has touchscreen controls that are similar to a controller, so it seems likely that official controller support will arrive eventually.
